Fighting the Effects of Sediment Pollution on Fish Populations (featuring EES grad student Njahi Mwangala)

Cate Larson meets with geophysicist Njahi Mwangala while at IMAGE23 in Houston, TX to learn about her work with Geoscientists Without Borders, a non-profit that provides funding for humanitarian projects all around the world. Her project revolves around Lake Tanganyika, a massive body of water that runs along the East African Rift system, and its long standing sediment pollution problem that's drastically impacting the fish population and the fishing industry its surrounding countries rely on.

2022 EES Dual Credit Student Visit

Students enrolled in EES 110 through the UK NextGen Dual Credit program came for a visit and were able to talk with graduate students and one recent EES grad about research and career options in the earth and environmental sciences. Photos by Summer Brown.

2022 EES Student Research Symposium

Every year, EES graduate students plan and run a student research symposium (ReSEES). The 2022 ReSEES was held at the W.T. Young Library and featured an invited talk from Kallie Moore, Collections Manager at the University of Montana Paleontology Center. Photos by Summer Brown.

EES 230 Fall 2022 Fire & Ice Trip

In EES 230, students travel to Virginia and North Carolina to see igneous and metamorphic rocks "in the wild". Students get a chance to learn about over a billion years of Appalachian geology while establishing close bonds with their classmates. Photos by Summer Brown.

The Big Blue Rock's Matt, Sarah, and Doug discuss all things meteorites with KGS geologist and current graduate student Ethan Davis. We get into differences among space rocks, planet evolution, impact craters around the world, Chicxulub mysteries, "meteorwrongs", meteorite composition, meteorites in Kentucky, the newest meteorite found in Kentucky, and much more!
