Assistantship and Fellowships
Assistantships and Fellowships
Teaching assistantships, research assistantships, and fellowships are awarded competitively to qualified applicants. All assistants and fellowship holders receive health insurance and are eligible for full tuition scholarships.
Assistantships for the 2012-13 academic year pay $13,048 for M.S. students and $13,735 for Ph.D. students for a 40-week appointment. Some summer teaching and research assistantships are available. Qualified applicants may be nominated for competitive fellowships awarded by the Graduate School.
Applicants who score at least 75th percentile on one category of the GRE and who have (a) an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.30, (b) a GPA of 3.60 for the last 60 credit hours of undergraduate work, or (c) a GPA of 3.80 for a previous graduate degree (in each case from a U.S. institution) are eligible for a departmental Pirtle Fellowship. This pays $3,000 summer salary and is renewable for a second summer for M.S. students and for two additional summers for Ph.D. students. Students who are not eligible for Pirtle Fellowships can apply for $1,000 Pirtle Scholarships.
